Search Engine Optimization Tactics Every Website Owner Must Use For High SE Rank

By: Daljeet Sidhu.

With the perpetual alterations seen in the Search Engine algorithms, it is impossible to create a fixed set of successful techniques. However, basic principles hold good despite varying internet trends and search engine algorithms. You can support SEO initiatives better by making your website more meaningful, accessible, and customer-friendly, while keeping some points in mind. Here are some suggestions to help you do that:

Generate keyword-rich content

Keyword-rich content is the first step to effective SEO. Content is infused with relevant keywords and search phrases commonly used by internet searchers for products or services and relevant to your business. Keyword phrases need to be placed prominently to catch the reader's attention and that of search engine bots. Some tips to get you started off:

- Use tools such as Nichebot, Google Adwords, Wordtracker, KeywordDiscovery and Google Analytics to look for keywords that are moderately competitive but are popular in searches.

- Use niche keyword phrases instead of broad phrases, (for example, "Women Plus Size Apparel" instead of "Women clothing").

- Make keywords part of titles, headings, links, page URLs, alt text of graphics, document write-ups of audio/video files, and bold and italicized text.

- Use keywords frequently but not so it looks like stuffing. Try to write as naturally as you can.

- Use keywords at the start of text blocks for better indexing.

Develop relevant content that focuses on customers' needs

Content should be pertinent to visitors interests, not difficult to grasp and access, and most of all should address their requirements. Search engines favor websites with multiple inbound links from other sites. It tells the search engines that the content is useful. This will make search engines elevate your page rank and get it to rank higher in organic search. Frequently refreshed content will motivate repeat client and also lead to re-indexing of pages by search engines.

Create user-friendly website design and information organization

Website users and web crawlers should be able to navigate pages quickly. You should incorporate effective information organization - website navigation; cross-linking with descriptive labeling; positioning text, video, audio and graphics, and images effectively; etc. Each web page should include links to sections within the website. Add a sitemap or a navigation menu for fast access. Sitemaps help search engine spiders crawl websites too. These strategies should be part of the web site's development plan as they need effort but help build a strong base of the website.

Get backlinks to your website

Inbound links or links from other websites can get you more search engine traffic. Think about getting backlinks from reputed web directories and related industry websites. Linking websites are helpful. They collect a recurring or one-time fee. Avoid black hat SEO marketers that promise hundreds of links to improve your page rank. Their tactics may get you blacklisted and make your site disappear from search engines.

Some guidelines for getting backlinks are:

- Great, relevant web content is the best way to get inbound links by becoming link baits.

- Have a "Link" button for easy linking to your website.

- Contact site owners and build mutually beneficial relationships for exchanging links.

- Link to useful websites that are superior quality. You might get a link back.

- Publish quality articles in high page rank article directories. They let you include a few links in the author resource box. Also make contact with owners of high ranking blogs and offer to provide free content to them if they allow you to include links back to your site.

Use meta tags effectively

The description meta tag contains the text that gets displayed in search results. It should include appropriate keywords and should attract customers. The keyword tag, though not considered by most search engines, helps in the website's categorization. The tags should address every page individually.

Evaluate the website's performance

After implementing an an SEO tactic, evaluate the website's performance to judge its efficacy. Use applications such as Google Webmaster Tools, Google Analytics, SEO Analysis Tool, etc.

Stay tuned to SEO events

Search engine companies are continually looking at ways to improve search quality. It's a good idea to know the latest happenings by registering with websites such as Search Engine Watch, The Official Google Blog, SEO blogs, SEO Chat, Sphinn, etc.

Avoid content duplication

Duplication of content can occur if articles are published on various websites, product and service specifications are similar except for heading and picture, session IDs are the only variations in URLs, printer-friendly version of pages are not excluded from search with directions in the "robots.txt" file, and if a website has multiple URLs names with identical content, etc. There is no search engine penalty for duplicate content but you will not get credit for backlinks created with duplicate content. Stay away from black hat strategies

Unethical SEO tactics such as keyword stuffing and website cloaking are helpful in the short term but can backfire by getting your website barred from search engines. If you want to win in the long run, use approved SEO tactics that conform to standards.

Relevant content, information design, and keywords should always be part of your SEO strategy with a mix of other tactics thrown in. This way, your website will get consistent search engine traffic in spite of modifications in search engine algorithms.
